My eyes have seen beauty and my heart has captured true love.
I stare beyond the colors of paintings into the heart of the artist’s intention. I've watched as an artist transformed canvas into masterpiece. I am deeply moved by the lyrics of gospel. I cry to the improvisation of jazz and opera’s harmony through tragedy. I am amazed at the composition of symphonies. I listen to HIP HOP and black-consciously, I am made free.
I read books and articles that change my perspective and heighten my intelligence. I watch movies that grip emotion by displaying a piece of my tapestry. I see “Revelation” by Alvin Ailey every time they are featured at the DOH and I forget to blink because I am mesmerized by interpretation. I quote pieces of my Uncle Roc’s sermons and my mentors’ lectures that have pruned me.
We are ordinary people with extraordinary gifts used to touch lives and heal souls. Those who recognize their purpose and use their gift should not take it for granted, for there are many walking the path of the unknown. Exercise what is given to you with faith, knowing that although you may be unsure of the ultimate purpose; understand there is a plan.
So take time to embrace the sun’s arrival and give a standing ovation for its exit. Fall in love with the moon and stars because tomorrow holds another step toward your destiny.
